Circus Madness – A Circus is coming to your city!

The founders and the Facebook Developer Garage Guayaquil

FDG5

At 2009 we started with 6 co-founders trying to conquer the world, coding really cool stuff at houses to create an startup. To give a summary,we realize that there wasn't an entrepreneurial ecosystem in Ecuador so we wanted to organize a great event to start the revolution. We were surprised by things going on out there in the US such as YCombinator, TechCrunch Disrupt, Facebook Viral Apps, Startup Weekend. We were passionate about creating an startup and having funding cause we though that there were a lot of better ideas in our head and a lot of talent in our brains to disrupt in sillicon valley.

As time passed by, the Facebook Developer Garage was more near to be happening and we gave up with the idea of organizing an Startup Weekend, cause there wasn't a strong entrepreneurial community in Ecuador. Of course there was our friends of the community at Iguana Valley, but that wasn't enough for what Clint Nelsen from Startup Weekend was asking in terms of audience and participants (hungry and young entrepreneurs).

So we accepted the chalenge of organizing the first and only Facebook Developer Garage in Guayaquil, Ecuador. We had great people working with us, just to make meaning. It was a great experience and nobody can understand how important this was. So many people were thinking in Facebook and the commercial stuff and marketing but not in our vision of a stronger community of entrepreneurs.

About the garage?

An event that brings together entrepreneurs and creatives who want to learn, collaborate and share about the advantages of the platform of the biggest social network in the world, FACEBOOK.

The first Facebook Developer Garage Guayaquil took place on Saturday October 24, 2009, in the auditorium of the Faculty of Electrical Engineering and Computer Science at Escuela Superior Politécnica del Litoral (ESPOL).

Real time games – Introducing Rocket Server

RocketServer Engine

Multiplayer engine

At Comet Bits we are very passionate about real time applications. Since the start of the company at my home, we start building some labs related to virtual worlds, tile based and multiplayer games. When big projects came to our pipeline we start developing a reliable socket server to handle at least 10 000 of concurrent connected users. Our first lab was based on the zynga game yoville and worked pretty good. After a lot of coding we finally launch our beta version based on a turn based card game.

In the battlefield

Rocket Server now is a complete middleware used for multiplayer games with a lot of features. We build all the persistence data handling and the rooms and zones logic. We had a lot of problems with some synchronization and contention issues but we fixed them with success.

Rocket Server is our middleware for web and mobile multiplayer games and applications. The last feature we develop was the support for HTML5 web sockets and also build code for blackberry protocol!  These are great features because now we can create cross platform multiplayer games.

What is the plan?

The plan now is to create more real time games and partner with any other game studio who want to try our technology to enhance their casual games or game ideas. We are ready now to launch our mobile blackberry version of the card game featured on the web (apps.facebook.com/clubcuarenta) . Be ready to get some news about it.
